For a tournament with many (>6) boards it is strongly recommended to use the serial interface. In this way you can combine 12 boards in one (split) bus configuration per comport on a computer with a total length of 100 metres of cable. You can make more COM-ports on your computer using one or more USB to Serial converters.
If you have already USB boards, you can use one or more USB-HUBs to combine them. Obviously there are limitations to the distances of the boards due to maximum cable length
