DRESDEN - 29 May 2008 - Digital Game Technology (DGT) got a large and prestious order. This week the contracts have been signed in Dresden by CEO Albert Vasse and Jörn Torsten Verleger of the tournament organisation.
DGT delivers for the Chess Olympiad in Dresden the chess clocks, electronic chess boards and software. It is one of the largests orders made by a chess organisation ever. The chess material will be used by the FIDE after the Chess Olympiad to support chess in poor countries.
The Chess Olympiad is a bi-annual country tournament by the FIDE. Every time it is organised in an other country. In November the teams (male and female) from 150 countries come to Dresden, Germany. The games of the approximately 1500 participants will be followed by 400 journalists and 150 arbiters. The Chess Olympiad is one of the most prestigeous chess events in the world.
By appointing DGT as "official supplier" the FIDE emphasises the quality of the company world wide. DGT has already official FIDE approval for its clocks for several years.
DGT is established in Enschede, The Netherlands. The company designs and produces chess materials. The chess clock series are world known and all big chess events use DGT clock. The clock series is lately expanded with a foldable chess clock: DGT960. Which also selects the start positions of the Chess960 (or Fischer Random Chess) game.
Also electronic chess boards, which detect and registrate the moves and forward these to a computer and the internet, are developed and produced by the company. Including the supporting software.
One of the new projects by DGT is Foidos. A new way of broadcasting chess games on the internet. Not only the position on the chess board is shown, but through multiple cameras also the players, the chess arena and commentating grand masters kan be followed live. The comments are given in multiple languages and discussion is possible. Foidos will be used with the coming World Championship match between Kramnik and Anand in October 2008 in Bonn, Germany.
