Can I use a board with a serial 9 pin (RS232) connector on a computer with only USB ports?
Yes you can, you need a USB-A to serial convertor. Usual such a device comes with a driver, you should install the driver before connecting it between your computer and your board.
This converter cannot supply the power for the board, you still need the external power-adapter which came with your serial board in combination with the special serial cable.
